ZOOLOGY DEPARTMENT

Established on 29th July, 1970 under the Headship of Late Prabhat Chandra Kakati, the Department of Zoology, Nowgong College is one of the oldest departments of this prestigious College providing quality education in Zoology since its establishment. The Department attracts students from Nagaon District and other parts of the Assam including Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, Morigaon, Kamrup, Dhubri, Sonitpur, Biswanath, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Golaghat, Sivasagar to name a few. The Department of Zoology is full–fledged with five (05) dedicated permanent faculty and three laboratory bearers. The Department started post graduate course in Zoology from 2017. Presently two special papers have been offered in PG courses, Viz. Animal Physiology and Biochemistry and Animal Ecology and Wildlife Biology. Well equipped laboratory facilities for both undergraduate and postgraduate students with modern equipments are available to students. Well maintained Animal Museum and Departmental library is accessible for the students. ICT enabled class rooms are available; all faculty uses the same for enhanced teaching-learning experience. The Department has recognized laboratories and supervisors to carry out Ph.D. work since 2017. College has received autonomous status on 2020. Institutional Ph.D. Programme has started in 2022. Presently three faculties are recognized as Ph.D. supervisors in the Department. Active research is going in the Department. The main thrust research areas include Sericulture, Molecular Biology and Animal Ecology. Three faculties have received extra mural research grants from various funding agencies, such as UGC, DST, DBT etc. For Upgradation of research facilities College has received financial support from RUSA I and II, DST FIST etc. All faculty members have quality publications in their credit.
